What to Expect and Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN SHOULD I  BOOK THE APPOINTMENT?

It is best to contact the studio at least 4-6 weeks in advance of the date you wish to have a portrait session.  However, if you are running late on that, please contact us anyway.  Newborns are our top priority, so if you have just given birth, please contact us right away, and we will get you in.

WHAT ARE THE BEST AGES TO HAVE MY CHILD PHOTOGRAPHED?

Newborn (within the first two weeks if possible) – for a beautiful freshly born and curled look.

When baby can sit up on his/her own – usually this is around 6-9 months.  Sitting up on their own makes them very happy.

When the baby can walk – usually 1-1/2 years old and older.  I suggest  an outdoor and studio combination.  They will get bored in the studio, and we get amazing outdoor images at this age as we can chase them around, and allow them to have fun and be relaxed.

If you don’t feel comfortable bringing your baby that early, please call me to arrange the shoot as soon as you are ready.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO HAVE MY PREGNANCY PHOTOGRAPHED?

Everyone is different but right around 8 months is a pretty standard time for a great belly.

WHAT TO WEAR?

Newborns – best photographed naked and curled up.  Booties, hats, wraps, etc. are all nice to switch around some looks.  While I do have many props at the studio, feel free to bring special props or blankets etc. that have meaning to you.

Babies and children – several different looks are welcomed.  Please be realistic in terms of how many outfit changes your child will be okay with.  Two to three is a good rule of thumb.  Solid colours and textures are always great.

Families – choosing colour groups.  Choose a nice mid to dark tone colour as base colours – avoid matching exact outfits.  Please see the family image on this page for great ideas concerning choosing a common base colour while everyone’s outfits are still different.

THE INVESTMENT

Custom photography is an investment in artistic imagery. I use state of the art  equipment and put in hours of post production to make sure that each image is perfect.  To really understand why you pay more for a custom portrait, have a look at Professional Child Photgrapher’s page, “Why Does Custom Photography Cost More?

DO YOU SHOOT ON LOCATION OR IN STUDIO?

90% of our sessions are done in studio or near the studio.  There are several beautiful locations within 15 minutes of the studio that allows us to do combination of studio and outdoor images in the same session.

WHERE IS YOUR STUDIO LOCATED?

The studio is located in Alberton on the East Rand, but I do travel at an additional cost.  The studio provides a professional and relaxed atmosphere with unique props.

DO YOU DO PRE-APPOINTMENT CONSULTATIONS?

We can do pre-appointment consultations by phone 24 hours before the shoot in case of an emergency (sick child etc).  The studio is open by appointment only, and we close the studio down when we are not shooting.

WHAT IF I AM RUNNING LATE FOR MY SESSION?

If you are running late, please call us immediately and let us know how late you will be.  If you will be over 20 minutes late, we may have to reschedule your shoot.  Being late will eat away the time we have designated for you, as there will be another session scheduled directly after yours. If you do not cancel your session the booking fee will be forfeited.

CAN I BRING THE GRANDPARENTS OR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS?

You are more than welcome (additional charge per person), but please bear in mind that children very often over-stimulate if there is too much family around. I try to capture the child in a very relaxed environment just being themselves.  Please bear in mind that too many people might unsettle the child.
